Ron Spinner
Ron Spinner’s storied coaching career spanned a remarkable 44 years all with Stroudsburg High School, as Spinner led the Mountaineers as head coach from 1972-2005 before stepping back to the assistant coaching role for another 11 years from 2005-16.
In his four-plus decades coaching at Stroudsburg, Spinner coached 21 All-State wrestlers, eight District 11 champions as head coach and an additional six as assistant coach, 14 PIAA state medalists and one PIAA state champion in Jake Jakobsen in his final season in 2016.
As a team, Spinner’s squads claimed 10 league championships under his tutelage and amassed a remarkable 357 dual meet victories. At the time of his retirement, Spinner was ranked third all-time on the District 11 dual meet victories list. He was also the first coach in Monroe County history to win 300 dual meets.
Spinner is a member of the District 11 Wrestling Coaches Hall of Fame (1999), the Lehigh-Pocono Hall of Fame as well as the Stroudsburg High School Hall of Fame. Additionally, in 2001, Spinner was inducted into the Pennsylvania State Wrestling Coaches Hall of Fame.
After a 44-year career as a teacher, coach of multiple sports at the school and mentor, Stroudsburg’s Senior High School Gymnasium was named in his honor in May of 2022 as the Curtis-Spinner Gymnasium.
Ron Spinner still resides in Stroudsburg, Pa.
