Martori Family
Art Martori is an Arizona based farmer and developer. His love of wrestling began when he became a member of YMCA’s Wrist Lock Club in 1960. As a club member he won titles in both Freestyle and Greco-Roman divisions. In 1965 Martori won the Western Athletic Conference title while attending Arizona State University.
After graduation and taking over the family citrus operation,a Martori founded the non-profit Sunkist Kids Wrestling Club in 1976. Sunkist Kids provides much needed financial support for athletes and coaches by supplying uniforms, travel and stipends. Martori helped pave the way for Regional Training Centers and Women’s Wrestling in the Olympics. To date, the Sunkist Kids Wrestling Club has sponsored 67 Olympic Team Members, 277 World Team members, several hundred National Team members and the club has won over 30 US National Team titles combined in all three styles.
Martori served as President of USA Wrestling from 1992-94 and has been a member of USA Wrestling’s Board of Directors. He has served on several committees as well as being Chairman of USA Wrestling Coach’s Selection Committee.
Martori’s prestigious honors include being awarded the Gold Star by FILA, the International Governing Body of Wrestling (currently United World Wrestling). In 1995 Martori received the Lifetime Service Award to Wrestling award from the Arizona Chapter of the National Wrestling Hall of Fame, and in 1999 was into the National Wrestling Hall of Fame as a Distinguished Member.
He became the first USA Women’s Wrestling Team Leader for the quad leading up to the 2004 Greece Olympics. In 2016 he was awarded Arizona State University’s Service Award and inducted into the National Italian American Sports Hall of Fame and Arizona Sports Hall of Fame.
His daughter, Kim Martori-Wickey, has also become involved as Executive Director of the Sunkist Kids Wrestling Club. In 2005 she was awarded USA Wrestling’s Woman of the Year award. She served as USA Women’s Wrestling Team Leader for the quad leading up to the 2012 London Olympics and USA Wrestling’s Diversity Committee member and chairwoman.
The Martori Family is a steward of the Living the Dream Medal Fund, dedicated to providing financial support to Wrestling’s Team USA medal winners.
Wrestling is a time-honored tradition of sport. Martori attributes much of his success to the lessons he learned on the mat.
