Fritz McGinness

August 31, 1935 - August 31, 2024

Fritz McGinness impacted the sport of wrestling in every capacity. His slate of wrestling experience began with coaching, officiating, and interpreting wrestling rules on a state level. As associate director of the National Federation of High School Associations from 1977 to 2000, McGinness was the principal liaison for wrestling to all of the nation's high schools.

He was also the liaison to the NFHS Wrestling Rules Committee, editor of wrestling publications, producer of films and videos and the national rules interpreter for high school wrestling. He also served as the high school representative on the NCAA Rules Committee.

McGinness served on the Board of Directors of USA Wrestling for many years, holding the offices of secretary, treasurer and vice president. He was also active on several USA Wrestling committees, including the executive, law, finance and the constitution committees and serving as chairman for several of the committees.

McGinness served on the National Wrestling Hall of Fame's state chairman organization committee and selection committees.

After retirement, he continued to work for the NFHS and was Executive Chairman of the 2003 NCAA Wrestling Championships held in Kansas City.
