Izzy Moreno was a two-time Montana state high school champion and a four-time state place-winner for Missoula High School.

He qualified for the state tournament at four different weight classes. Moreno finished fifth at 120 pounds as a freshman and second as a junior at 145 pounds while capturing state titles as a sophomore at 132 pounds and as a senior at 160 pounds.

His father and high school coach, Rick Moreno, was an NAIA national champion for Mount St. Clare while his uncle, Mike Moreno, was a four-time Iowa state high school champion and a three-time NCAA Division I qualifier for Iowa State University and his cousin, Michael Moreno, was a two-time All-American for Iowa State.
