Maggie Smith

Maggie Smith, from Wyoming, has made history in women’s wrestling at Rock Springs High School. She became the first female in school history to win a women’s wrestling state title, capturing first place in the 190-pound weight class. Smith also holds the distinction of being the first girl to wrestle on the Rock Springs High School team for all four years. In 2020, she broke barriers by becoming the first girl from her school to qualify for the State Tournament in the boys’ division.

Beyond wrestling, Smith is a multi-talented athlete and artist. She plays football and has had her artwork recognized at the State Art competition. Passionate about growing opportunities for girls in wrestling, Smith organized the school’s first girls’ wrestling camp, inspiring others to join the sport. “She has really built something for the girls in this area,” noted her coach, Doporto.

Smith is also a two-time champion of the Tournament of Champions in Vernal, Utah, winning in the girls’ division during its first two years. She recently signed a letter of intent with Colorado Mesa University, where she will continue her wrestling career in the 170–190 lbs upper-weight division. Smith is the first female wrestler from Rock Springs High School to sign with a collegiate wrestling program, paving the way for future athletes.
