Jeulenea Khang
Jeulenea Khang excelled on the mats in 2022-23 in an impressive senior campaign.
She became Freedom High School’s fourth all-time state wrestling champion when she defeated Jamie Hearl of Mount Airy by 2-0 decision in the 100-pound title match of the Women’s Wrestling Invitational at the Greensboro Coliseum Fieldhouse. Her gold medal came one year after earning silver at the same event.
Khang also had a sixth-place finish at the Super 32 Challenge, a North Carolina High School Athletic Association Women’s Wrestling Invitational championship, and a runner-up finish at the National High School Coaches Association High School Nationals.
This year, competing in the 100-pound weight class, Khang was both champion and Most Outstanding Wrestler at the Holy Angels Invitational, Regional Tournament, and Women’s Wrestling Invitational.
A three-year starter and two-time state finalist for Freedom High School, Khang amassed a 91-22 record while competing against both boys and girls. At the Men’s AAA West Regional Tournament in February, Khang advanced to the consolation semifinals, one match short of qualifying for the state tournament.
Khang will wrestle for Mount Olive University this fall and major in exercise science. She is the first female from Burke County to wrestle in college.
