Samantha Yap

Stamford’s Samantha Yap was one of two wrestlers to win a third state championship in February when she won the CIAC Girls Invitational at 107 pounds.

Yap (20-3), one of the two captains for the Stamford High program, had three first period pins to win the championship.

Yap earned All-American honors at the National High School Coaches Association (NHSCA) girls tournament in Virginia Beach in March with a fifth place finish at 100 pounds.

Yap also earned medals in two boys tournaments at 107 pounds. She finished fourth in the FCIAC championship tournament and sixth at the CIAC Class LL championships.

Ranked in the top 20 of her class, Yap had a grade point average of 3.9 after her junior year. Yap will be wrestling for Sacred Heart University next winter.
