Frank Ferrandino

Frank Ferrandino began wrestling at the youth level, followed by junior high, coached by Hall of Fame Coach John Thomas. He then wrestled at the varsity level at Wyomissing High School and also was a member of the football team. Graduating in 1986, Frank then attended West Chester University, graduating in 1991. He was a member of the wrestling squad for his first 2 years until WCU dropped the wrestling program.

Frank returned to his alma mater and began coaching wrestling and football. The year before Frank became the wrestling coach, Wyomissing participated in no dual meets, and was in danger of being eliminated completely. Frank took the helm in 1991-92 and reenergized the program. Through the next 31 years, Frank guided the Spartans to 331 wins, entering the 22-23 season.

Frank has coached 17 District Champs, 8 Regional Champs, 41 State Qualifiers, including 11 medalists, 1 Runner-up and 3 State Champions. His teams have won 7 Sectional/League Team Titles, and reached the District III Team Dual Tournament finals 3 times. In 2022, Frank started one of the first girls wrestling teams in Berks County.

Off the mat, Frank has been an assistant football coach for the Spartans that has won 20 Section/League titles, 10 District Championships and 1 state Championship. Frank has coached 3 players who reached the NFL. He was also an assistant Baseball Coach for 18 years of a team that won 3 County Championships and 4 District titles.

Frank continues today as the Athletic Director, the head wrestling coach and head offensive football coach at Wyomissing.

Since 1994 he’s been President of the Berks County Wrestling Coaches Association. Since 2015, he’s been the Athletic Director Sports Chair Berks County Wrestling, and since 2020 he’s been a member of the District III Wrestling Steering Committee.

 

Frank has been inducted into the Berks County Wrestling Coaches Hall of Fame, the District 3 Coaches Wrestling Hall of Fame, and the Wyomissing Football Alumni Association Hall of Fame. Frank also serves as an advisory to the Pennsylvania Chapter as the National Wrestling Hall of Fame board.

 

Frank currently resides in Wyomissing with his wife Kelly and their children, Maggie and Rocky.
