Ray Haney
During a 40-year career in the State of Maryland as a wrestler andcoach, Ray Haney demonstrated qualities of dedication and leadership necessary for the achievement of success in any endeavor. His wrestling career got off to a good start at Mount SaintJoseph High School under the direction of Coach Ray Kosloski while also participating in work outs at the Baltimore YMCA.
Ray won the MSA and National YMCA Championship as a high school junior and senior before entering the University of Maryland. While wrestling for Coach Sully Crouse, Ray won the Atlantic Coast Conference Championship three times and was again named team captain his senior year.
Coach Haney's coaching career began before graduating from college. From 1957-1959, Ray coached junior league with the Washington Boulevard Lions club. He coached junior league programs over eleven years.
His 16-year high school coachingcareer began at Mervo-Tech as JV coach. In 1971 Ray was named head coach at the University of Baltimore.
During his five-year tenure at UMB, the wrestling team won the Mason-Dixon dual meet championships and team championships two times and developed 21 individual champions. Ray resumed his high school and juniorleague coaching career until his retirement in 1991.
