Bill Rushing graduated from Gar-Field High School in Woodbridge, Virginia, and went on to complete his higher education at George Mason University in Fairfax, Virginia.

Following college, Rushing dedicated his multi-decade public education career to Prince William County Public Schools. He served as a physical education teacher and the legendary head varsity wrestling coach at Woodbridge High School, leading the Vikings program through its highly competitive eras in the 1980s and 1990s.

Under his steady leadership, Woodbridge became a dominant regional power in Northern Virginia. He successfully guided dozens of individual wrestlers to district and regional tournament crowns, coached multiple athletes to individual Virginia High School League state medals, and laid the competitive foundation for the school's subsequent championship runs.

Following his highly decorated high school coaching career, he transitioned his passion for the sport into officiating. He became one of the most prominent and trusted mat referees in the region, joining the local wrestling officials association to referee high-stakes postseason duals across Virginia.

Bill gave a multi-decade commitment to youth sports as a competitor, championship high school coach, and respected mat official.
