Scott Tankersley
Scott Tankersley, who was diagnosed as deaf at age 3, never let his hearing impairment slow him down, going on to become one of the most successful wrestling coaches in the Texas Panhandle. The Caprock alumni's coaching career began at West Texas Christian in 1995, where Tankersley would go on to lead his team to a state title in girls basketball.
After the school merged with San Jacinto Christian Academy, Tankserley's teams claimed state titles in baseball and boys basketball. Following his success at SJCA, Tankersley accepted a position as the head girls wrestling coach at his alma mater.
Despite not having much experience on the mat, Tankersley found success as a wrestling coach, leading the Lady Longhorns to seven UIL state titles, including six consecutive championships, from 1998-2009. Caprock won three dual state championships and maintained a dual record of 144-2 under Tankersley's tutelage.
The 2025 Texas Panhandle Sports Hall of Fame inductee was named UIL girls wrestling coach of the year and coached 21 state champions during his time at Caprock. Tankersley finished his coaching career at Bushland, where he was at the helm of six different sports from 2009-2022.
During his final two seasons at Bushland, Tankersley led the Lady Falcons' softball team to a 62-15 record.
