Jim Schall
Jim Schall Kelso High School 1954-1983 Jim Schall started the wrestling program at Kelso High School and was head coach there for twenty-nine years before retiring in 1983. He was a pivotal part of developing the cultural exchange program between Washington and Japan. Jim retired from teaching in 1983 and lived in Japan for 9 years following his retirement. He produced 12 league championship teams, 7 state champions, and placed 4th in state in 1963. Jim Schall was a pioneer in the development of wrestling programs in Washington state at all levels. Schall started the wrestling club at the University of Washington in 1953 which became the U. of W. Intercollegiate program in 1954. He started the Kelso High School wrestling program in 1955, the Lower Columbia Junior College program in 1957 as well as serving as the state freestyle chairman in it's infancy. Jim continued to compete in the sport and was the National Wrestling Masters Champion at the age of 50 in 1977. Schall began completion in the AAU and World Power Lifting Championships in the bench press and dead-lift where he holds worked records in two age groups. Jim was inducted in the Washington State Wrestling Coaches Hall of Fame in 1985. Jim and his wife Yoko Ogawa reside in Seattle and have two grown children, Randi Gord and Donna Myers.
