Patrick Briscoe

July 13, 1943 - July 23, 2024

Patrick Briscoe was co-captain of the football team, captain of the wrestling team and class vice president at North Caroline High School in Ridgely, Maryland.

He attended Glenville State University on a football scholarship and was captain of the football and wrestling teams. A member of the Tau Kappa Epsilon fraternity and student body president, he graduated with degrees in physical education, social studies and driver's education. He later earned his master's degree in education from Salisbury University.

Patrick bean coaching football and had the honor of coaching football alongside his friend, mentor and father figure, Thomas Bailey, at James M. Bennett High School in Salisbury, Maryland.

When Parkside High School in in Salisbury, Maryland, opened its doors in 1975, Coach Briscoe started the wrestling and football programs. He was The Star Democrat Wrestling Coach of the Year in 1977. He coached football at Parkside through 1989 and wrestling for several more years. He stepped in to coach the football team at Wicomico High School in Salisbury, Maryland, in 1992.

In addition to teaching driver's education and coaching football and wrestling, Coach Briscoe worked with kids in Conflict-Resolution, a rewarding passion he loved to talk about. He helped confused students find their direction and many stayed in touch with him years later. His strong stature was always paired with wise words and truth.

There are too many champions and trophies to list, but mentoring and molding kids was always more important than wins and losses to Coach Briscoe.

He was inducted into the Maryland State Wrestling Hall of Fame in 1992 and received the Lifetime Service to Wrestling award from the Maryland Chapter of the National Wrestling Hall of Fame in 2004.

After he retired in 2002, he worked as the stadium manager at the Wicomico County football field. It was an art and a science for Coach Briscoe until his retirement in 2023 due to illness. He also volunteered as a coach with the Wicomico wrestling team.
