Dick Deane

Dick Deane grew up in Moses Lake where he lettered in four sports and received the Moses Lake High School Sportsmanship Award in 1956.

After becoming the first wrestling letterman at Central Washington State College, Deane returned to the Moses Lake School District in 1960 and taught, coached and was an administrator for the next 42 years.

During his tenure he received four "Awards of Excellence" from the Moses Lake School District and was Columbia Basin Big Nine Assistant Principal of the Year in 2001.

Deane's wrestling coaching record was 322-50-3, including 16 individual state champions and 49 state place-winners. His teams won the state championship four straight years, 1965-1968, and finished second the next two years. He was nominated five times by the Greater Spokane Sports Writers for the Inland Empire Coach of the Year Award. In 1974 he was selected Washington State Wrestling Coach of the Year.

He officiated wrestling for 44 years, including 22 district tournaments, 24 regional tournaments and three tournament finals. In 1989 he received the "Outstanding Contributors Award" from the Washington State Wrestling Coaches Association and was inducted into their Hall of Fame in 1986. He is also a member of the Moses Lake High School Hall of Fame and the Central Washington University Hall of Fame.

Deane is recognized for his many contributions to the community of Moses Lake. He was on the Moses Lake Parks and Recreation Commission for 15 years, served as vice chairman for two years and commission chairman for 12 years. The Washington State Parks and Recreation Board of Directors recognized him in 2003 with their "Citation of Merit." Dick is currently on the Moses Lake City Council.

He has been married for 43 years to wife Linda and has a son Eric and daughter Krista. He has three grandchildren. Dick's dedication to kids, in the community and school, is unsurpassed.
