Born in our nation's capital, Kevin Short's career has garnered both national and international acclaim. From his prep wrestling championship days, to his operatic debut at the Metropolitan Opera, the disciplines of his youth have propelled him to the heights of musical achievement.

While a student at Lackey High School, he achieved excellence in the athletic arena and in the arts. A three-time District wrestling champion, he was active in theatre and was named All-District Honors performer in both instrumental and vocal music. While he accepted an offer to wrestle for Morgan State University, the rigors of pursuing two disciplines led him to focus solely on music. With a single goal identified, he completed a Bachelor of Science degree and was named the Outstanding Vocal Student; he next trained at the prestigious Curtis Institute of Music and was again named the Outstanding Music Student. He completed his studies at the Juilliard School of Music.

The former high school wrestling champion is now a highly sought after Bass-Baritone. Since his Metropolitan Opera debut in 1991, he has sung in over 125 performances at the Met. His other performance locations include Carnegie Hall, the Kennedy Center and the Lincoln Center as well as venues in Europe and Asia. He has performed with many of the world's finest orchestras including the Cleveland Orchestra, the Philadelphia Orchestra and the Boston Symphony. In a world- wide search, Short was selected as a soloist to perform with an orchestra of "all stars" at the 1998 Winter Olympics in Nagano, Japan.

He has won top honors at the International Verdi Competition, the Roca Ponselle International Vocal Competition and other top international and national competitions.
