David Harty

David Harty lettered four years in wrestling at Iowa Falls High School, finishing third in the state single-class tournament in 1953.
He continued his career at Iowa State University, lettering two years and reaching the finals of the Big Seven Conference tournament.
Harty coached two years at Postville High School and 11 years at Eagle Grove High School, compiling a career record of 120-38-2. He had several state champions and place-winners while leading his teams to Top 10 finishes 12 of the 13 years.
He officiated for 21 years, working university and college national tournaments and dual meets.
Harty served as the color commentator for 10 years of Iowa Public Television's college wrestling series.
He retired from coaching in 1970 and became the assistant executive director of the Iowa High School Athletic Association. Harty is responsible for the state wrestling program, including organizing and conducting the state high school wrestling tournament.
