National Wrestling Hall of Fame

2016 Michigan State Chapter Inductees for website

The Michigan wrestling community lost a “Giant” over the weekend with the passing of Dave Porter. Dave was the perfect identity for the term: “Dominant Big Man” as a 2x NCAA Champ @ HWT and 2x football letter winner at the University of Michigan in the 60s. After turning down an opportunity to compete in 1968 Olympics, Dave was selected by the Cleveland Browns in the NFL draft. He taught and coached at Grand Ledge H.S. for 30 years after his career was cut short by injury. Dave was inducted in to the Michigan Chapter of the NWHOF in 2010. He will be sorely missed by all that knew him.
