Lifetime Achievement Award-Winning Official Dick Torio Passes Away

STILLWATER, OK – Dick Torio, the National Wrestling Hall of Fame’s Lifetime Achievement Award for an official recipient in 1996, has passed away. He was 84.

Torio was an international exceptionnelle, 1960-78, and officiated 22 Olympic and World Championships. He was named the outstanding official at the 1972 Olympic Games in Munich and has received two other major honors from the international federation. He was AAU Official of the Year in 1976.

Torio founded the Torio Health Club in 1957, producing national and world contenders in three sports. He coached the U.S. Greco-Roman team in the 1963 World Championships and was manager of the 1968 Olympic team in Mexico City. Torio was tournament director of the World Championships in 1962 and 1966, and World Cup tournaments from 1973-1986.
